We transformed our client’s space into an immersive home cinema room. It worked as somewhere to relax with a movie, or gather together for the excitement of match day.
Our client had an existing home cinema setup, but it wasn’t of the quality that he wanted. It lacked the immersive feel that transforms your home cinema experience. The sound clarity wasn’t as sharp as it could be. Plus, the lighting control was limited.
A proud dad, grandad and Chelsea fan, our client dreamed of a space that served two distinct purposes. Firstly, a comfortable and functional space where the family could gather and enjoy live sport together. But secondly, it also needed to work as a relaxing place to unwind and lose himself in a movie.
“I wanted a space where I could truly escape—somewhere I could immerse myself in movies and enjoy watching Chelsea with my kids and grandchildren. It needed to feel like a proper cinema but still be easy to use and comfortable for family time.”
The goal was to create a dedicated cinema room with exceptional picture and sound quality – as good as any commercial movie theatre. The space had to feel like an immersive home cinema whilst also being comfortable and functional for family use.
The technology needed to be easy to operate by all family members. However, that couldn’t compromise the high performance audio and visuals. Every decision was about balancing performance with creating an inviting atmosphere. And of course, quality and luxury were of paramount importance.
The room layout that we designed ensured an optimal cinema-scale viewing experience with exceptional visuals and audio. We chose an Epson laser projector to provide sharp high-contrast visuals which enhance both big screen movie action and live sports events.
We incorporated a huge 120” acoustically transparent screen into the space. That meant that we could place the speakers discreetly behind the screen, creating a true cinematic sound experience without disrupting the room’s aesthetics. A 7.2.2 Dolby Atmos KEF system with its crisp highs and deep bass ensured 3D sound fully enveloped the audience. We incorporated acoustic treatments subtly to enhance sound clarity and reduce echo, especially for dialogue-heavy scenes.
Lighting can be overlooked, but we understand the big difference it can make to a room. We integrated Control4 lighting. This meant that our client could switch instantly between movie and sports modes, or create ambient lighting with a single touch.
For convenience and ease of use, Control4 room automation can be operated simply. You can adjust your atmosphere – the AV, lighting and screen control – from one touch of an app or control panel. It’s easy to create the perfect ambience every time, be that a big Chelsea match with the family or an immersive movie night on your own. The room’s lighting and audio settings adjust seamlessly to match the mood.
Overall, the space feels high-end yet inviting. The layout’s been designed for maximum comfort and the best possible viewing experience for all the family.
“The finished cinema is exactly what I hoped for—an escape where I can truly lose myself in a film or feel like I’m at Stamford Bridge on matchday.”

The brief. Our client in Oxshott had a room that was not delivering: no immersion, poor sound clarity and limited lighting control. He wanted, in his own words, a space where he could truly escape, somewhere to immerse himself in movies and enjoy watching Chelsea.
| Projector | Epson LS-12000 laser, ceiling mounted |
| Screen | 120″ acoustically transparent fixed frame |
| Sound | KEF THX 7.2.2 Dolby Atmos package, Denon AVR |
| Control | Control4 automation with colour touchscreen remote |
| Seating | Six Front Row leather dual-motor recliners in two rows |
| Room | Acoustic treatment, dark walls, grey carpet, sloped ceiling |
The challenges. The sloped ceiling constrained projector placement and speaker geometry, and the client wanted the room to serve two different evenings: cinema immersion and match-day atmosphere. We placed the front speakers behind the acoustically transparent screen to keep the room clean, designed the layout around the ceiling line, and programmed distinct Control4 modes for film and sport.
The result. “The finished cinema is exactly what I hoped for, an escape where I can truly lose myself in a film or feel like I’m at Stamford Bridge on matchday.”
