Why the network matters
Every smart home system, streaming service and video call runs over your network. When the Wi-Fi drops in the kitchen or the cinema buffers on a Saturday night, it is rarely the television's fault. It is usually the network behind it.
Control4 needs a wired Ethernet connection to set up a controller and recommends Ethernet over Wi-Fi for the best connectivity, which is why we design the wired and wireless network as part of the system rather than as an afterthought. Our guide to why a Control4 smart home depends on its network explains the detail.
What we install
We plan cable routes, the equipment rack and wireless access points around your house, so coverage reaches the rooms and garden spaces you actually use. On recent projects that has included a Ruckus Wi-Fi network for a large home in Cobham, and a Ubiquiti Wi-Fi system with a fibre backbone from the main house for a garden room in Thames Ditton.
- Whole-house Wi-Fi with access points placed for coverage, not convenience
- Structured cabling to TVs, keypads, cameras and the equipment rack
- Network equipment chosen to support Control4, Sonos and streaming
- Outbuildings and garden rooms connected back to the house
Upgrading an existing network
Many of our network projects start with a home that already has technology in it. We survey what is there, keep what works and replace what does not, then make sure the whole system is reliable again.
