The client’s dream

Having moved recently into an incredible 8-bedroom home, the family wanted to transform their basement into a family cinema room. They wanted a dedicated space that was large enough for the whole family to spend time together watching movies or sporting events. Importantly, it needed to feel relaxing and mellow. They wanted somewhere to escape from their busy lives, sit back and chill out comfortably.

Our solutions

Using the basement was a great solution as it already felt removed from the rest of the house. It was also large enough to accommodate the entire family comfortably, as well as house the all important sports bar and home cinema.

The choice of lighting was crucial. The basement was dark which is ideal for a cinema room. But by installing Control4 lighting solutions, our clients are able to select the mood-enhancing setting that suits the cinematic experience. You want a different vibe when you’re watching a nail-biting match, than when you’re settling down to a tearjerking movie. The Control4 lighting system is easy-to-use, conveniently controlled via a mobile app or single handheld remote.

We installed the Projecta HD Progressive 126” acoustically transparent screen and Epson TW-9400 Lamp Based 4K projector for superior picture quality. The KEF speaker system ensures a state-of-the-art audio experience every time.

A modern Basement Home Cinema with Bar in Weybridge Surrey features a large wall-mounted screen, two plush sectional sofas with cushions and blankets, and framed film posters on the wall under recessed ceiling lights.

The challenges

A basement gives total light control but no natural atmosphere, so the lighting design carried the room: one Control4 scene for a nail-biting match, another for film nights, and all in-wall and in-ceiling speakers kept the family space clean.

The result

A basement the whole family actually uses, with cinema-grade picture and sound and a bar for match days.
