Lutron keypads explained: Palladiom, Alisse and more

Palladiom, Alisse, Aviena, Vierti, seeTouch and Pico: what each Lutron keypad looks like, which UK system it needs, and how to choose one.

The Lutron Palladiom keypad is a flush-fronted keypad in glass, metal or matte finishes, with backlit, engraved buttons. In the UK it works with HomeWorks. Alisse and Aviena are hand-finished solid brass alternatives, Vierti and Pico cover RadioRA 3, and Sunnata is a US range we could not find on Lutron’s UK site.

Your keypad is the part of the system you touch every day, so it is worth choosing carefully. It also decides more than looks: pick a range and you have largely picked the system.

Which Lutron keypads are sold in the UK?

Lutron’s UK keypads and remotes page and its UK Lutron Luxury controls page list these ranges:

  • Palladiom: keypads, thermostats and accessories in polymer, metal or glass. HomeWorks.
  • Alisse: hand-finished solid brass with round buttons. HomeWorks.
  • Aviena: a weighted mechanical toggle, hand-finished in solid brass. HomeWorks.
  • seeTouch: wired or wireless keypads with raised, engraved buttons. HomeWorks.
  • Architrave and Signature Series: a slim keypad for tight spots, and one with large backlit buttons. Both HomeWorks wired.
  • GRAFIK Eye QS: a customisable keypad for both lights and window treatments. HomeWorks.
  • Vierti: a wireless keypad in solid brass or polymer, with large raised buttons and LED indicators. RadioRA 3 and HomeWorks.
  • Pico: a wire-free remote that works with RA2 Select, RadioRA 3 and HomeWorks.

Sunnata appears on Lutron’s US website, where it is listed for RadioRA 3 and HomeWorks and specified for 120 to 277 V wiring. It is not on Lutron’s UK keypad pages, so we could not confirm UK availability. If you have seen it in an American home, Vierti is the closest UK equivalent for RadioRA 3.

What makes the Palladiom keypad different?

Lutron’s Palladiom page offers three families of finish: Architectural Matte colours such as white, ivory, taupe and black; Architectural Metal finishes such as satin brass, bright chrome and satin nickel; and clear black or clear white glass.

Buttons come in two, three or four-button layouts, with an option for raise and lower buttons to dim, and they can be arranged in one or two columns. Buttons are backlit and carry engraved text, and Lutron offers custom engraving so each button can say exactly what it does. Lutron’s UK page offers an International Square shape as well as the US rectangle.

In the UK, Palladiom is a HomeWorks keypad and connects over Lutron’s QS wiring. If you want Palladiom, plan for HomeWorks from the start.

Alisse and Aviena: brass for traditional interiors

Lutron describes Alisse as “machined from solid brass and finished by hand”. Finishes include aged brass, aged bronze, brushed brass, satin nickel and matte black, with layouts from a single button up to nine across several columns. Custom engraving is available here too.

Aviena is the heritage option: a weighted toggle that clicks like a traditional switch, hand-finished in solid brass and, in Lutron’s words, “inspired by heritage designs”. It can be programmed so that a single or double click upwards gives different light levels. Lutron also notes that its vertical format fits a wider range of back boxes. If you live in an older house, our guide to smart lighting in listed and period homes covers the wider picture.

Vierti and Pico: the RadioRA 3 keypads

Vierti is the main wall keypad for RadioRA 3, and it works with HomeWorks too. It comes in solid brass or polymer, with large raised buttons and LED indicators that give clear feedback. It communicates wirelessly, so it needs no control cable back to a panel.

Pico is the simplest control to add. It is wire-free, so it can sit on a bedside table, a coffee table or the arm of a sofa. It also works across RA2 Select, RadioRA 3 and HomeWorks, which makes it useful whichever system you choose.

How many buttons do you actually need?

Fewer than most people expect. A good keypad replaces a row of switches with a handful of scenes, each one setting several lights at once. For most rooms we suggest three or four scenes plus off. Our guide to planning lighting scenes room by room goes through this in detail.

Engraving is where a keypad becomes easy for guests and grandparents. Name buttons for what you are doing, such as “Cinema”, “Dinner” or “Goodnight”, rather than which lights they control. A cinema keypad like the one above can also carry buttons for the blinds, and in our Epsom media room the family adjusts the LED lighting, the AV and the blackout blinds from one control pad.

Does the keypad decide the system?

Largely, yes. Here is how it works out in the UK:

  • Palladiom, Alisse, Aviena, seeTouch, Architrave, Signature Series and GRAFIK Eye QS mean HomeWorks.
  • Vierti means RadioRA 3 or HomeWorks.
  • RA2 Select relies mainly on Pico remotes.

Our comparison of HomeWorks, RadioRA 3 and Caseta explains the systems themselves, and our Lutron lighting control page shows how we design and install them.

Choosing yours

The best way to choose a keypad is to press one. Finishes that look similar on screen feel very different on the wall. Book a free design consultation and we will talk you through the ranges that suit your home, your walls and the system behind them.

Frequently asked questions

Does the Palladiom keypad work with RadioRA 3?

Not according to Lutron’s UK keypad listings, which show Palladiom with HomeWorks. For RadioRA 3 the wall keypad is Vierti, alongside Pico remotes.

Is the Lutron Sunnata keypad available in the UK?

We could not confirm it. Sunnata appears on Lutron’s US website but not on its UK keypad pages, which list Vierti as the RadioRA 3 keypad.

Can Lutron keypad buttons be engraved?

Yes. Lutron offers custom engraving on Palladiom and Alisse, and seeTouch keypads have engraved buttons, so each button can carry the name of a scene.

Which Lutron keypad suits a period home?

Aviena and Alisse are the natural starting points. Lutron describes Aviena as a weighted toggle in solid brass inspired by heritage designs, and Alisse as solid brass finished by hand.

Can a Lutron keypad control blinds as well as lights?

Yes. Lutron systems control lighting and window treatments together, and Lutron describes GRAFIK Eye QS as controlling both electric light and window treatments from one keypad.
