Home cinema design decides everything the equipment cannot fix later: where the seats go, how big the screen can honestly be, where the speakers need to sit, how the room handles sound and light. What good design decides

Screen size from real viewing distances (the most comfortable viewing angle sits between 33 and 40 degrees), speaker placement for the room you actually have rather than a textbook rectangle, acoustic treatment that works with the interior design, seating layout and riser heights, lighting scenes, and where every box of electronics hides. Our Oxshott cinema shows what design does with a hard room: a sloped ceiling, dual film-and-football use, and speakers placed behind an acoustically transparent screen so the room stays clean.

How the design process works

First, a conversation and a survey, at your home or in our Walton-on-Thames demonstration cinema. Then the design: layout, kit specification at the level of detail in our project pages, and 3D visuals of the finished room. You approve the design before installation is scheduled. Budgets are honest from the start: a professionally designed small cinema room typically costs \u00a315,000 to \u00a325,000 fully installed, and the cost guide breaks that down line by line.

Design for architects and interior designers

We work alongside professional teams on new builds and renovations, and we run RIBA and BIID accredited CPD sessions on home technology. If you are specifying a cinema for a client, involve us at drawing stage: cable routes, riser dimensions and acoustic allowances are cheap on paper and expensive after plastering.
